Like most women I wear many hats, one of my biggest passions is teaching. I have been teaching at the elementary level for quite a few years now and I can honestly say that I love it. Yes, the hours are long and the pay isn’t amazing- but helping students understand a concept for the first time is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. This past year I was lucky enough to teach Kindergarten and 1st grade, two of my all-time favorite grades!
This year I had been working really hard with my kids on making predictions and retelling stories- these are huge skills needed for reading comprehension. If you are a parent you can help your child with this! Stop a book midway and ask your child what he or she thinks will happen next, let them make a prediction. Or after you finish the story, see if they can retell it to you. Easy and fun, kids love this!
Since I’ve been teaching for a while I am always on the lookout for new and fun books, I sometimes feel like I read the same ones year after year. My husband came home with Dragons Love Tacos a few months ago and I couldn’t wait to share it with my class! It has simple illustrations and a very silly story, my 1st graders were laughing out loud!
Basically, the story is all about how dragons love tacos. All kinds of tacos….but dragons do not like spicy salsa with their tacos. My kids had a great time trying to predict why dragons don’t like spicy salsa, when we got to the end of the book they thought it was so funny. A few had even made a correct prediction! If you are a parent, swing by your local library this summer and check out Dragons Love Tacos. Just make sure you use a silly voice when you read it, your kids will love it!
Just a note: I don’t get anything for recommending this book. There are no affiliate links in this post, I was not compensated in any way. My blog literally makes me zero dollars. This is just a great book that love and want to share with others!
